This Town Hall Meeting was recorded on September 11, 2013.
The featured speaker was Mr. David Baldinger of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Associations, an alliance of eighty-one
nonpartisan grassroots Pennsylvania taxpayer advocacy groups
that span the entire Commonwealth and represent tens of
thousands of taxpayers. The PCTA is dedicated to the support of
House Bill 76 and Senate Bill 76, the Property Tax Independence
Act, legislation that will abolish school property taxes in
Pennsylvania and will equitably replace a broken education
Why should we eliminate the property tax ?
The Washington Post is running an investigative series on
the District of Columbia's property tax collection system. Monday's installment featured the story of 76 year-old
Marine Veteran Bennie Coleman who
lost his house because he didn't pay a $134 property tax
bill. Another story concerned Daisy Dolsey, a 95 year old
living in a nursing home and struggling with Alzheimer's:
She lost her $300,000 house over a $44.79 incorrectly filed tax debt.
While you might think this is a Washington problem,
25th Montgomery County Sherriff's sale shows plenty of
repo activity in Cheltenham Township. Check the list: you
might see a neighbor.
What can you do about it ?
Contact Representative Steve McCarter(email)
and Senator LeAnna Washington (email)
